The historic center of Florence is rich in history and magnificent works of art. For tourists that travel by car and not only it is essential to know if it is possible to park a few steps from the historical centre of the city. Florence's Limited Traffic Zone (updated 2021)

Florence is a city where art and history are the protagonists, known throughout the world for its Duomo which boasts one of the largest domes in the world and the majestic works of Botticelli and Leonardo located in the Uffizi Gallery, this city counts innumerable churches such as Santa Maria Novella, Santa Croce and the famous Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. It is impossible not to mention its beautiful palaces, especially the Pitti Palace, or its romantic bridges, such as the Ponte Vecchio.

Few people know that the Tuscan capital, was one of the first Italian municipalities that limited access to vehicles in some areas of the city. The restricted traffic zone of Florence, in fact, opened in 1990, is one of the oldest in Italy and extends for 4 km. It consists of 5 sectors, divided by the Arno river. Looking at the river in the direction of its mouth, sector A delimiting the historic centre, sector B covering a large area and sector G, active only in summer, are located on the right side of the river. On the contrary sector F, and sector O which houses the Boboli Gardens The Pitti Palace and the Porta Romana, are located on the left side.

Euro 1 gasoline and Euro 2 diesel vehicles and mopeds have no permission to enter and therefore cannot circulate in the various sectors mentioned above. Electric and hybrid vehicles, on the other hand, are not subject to these restrictions.

We recommend that you take note and print out a copy of the map so that you do not run the risk of being fined.

Sector A , Sector B , Sector O

The ZTL in these areas is active in the following hours:

From 07:30am to 08:00pm, from Monday to Friday, all year long, excluding public holidays.
From 07:30am to 4pm, Saturdays, excluding public holidays.

The Summer Nocturnal ZTL, active from April until the beginning of October, is active in the following hours:

on Thursdays from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. (Friday)
on Fridays from 8.00 p.m. to 3.00 a.m. (Saturday)
on Saturdays from 4.00 p.m. to 3.00 a.m. (Sunday)

During the months listed above, in these sectors on Fridays and Saturdays the ZTL is active from 7.30 a.m. to 3.00 a.m. of the following day.

Sector F, Sector G

IIn these areas only the Summer Nocturnal ZTL is in force at the following times:

from 11.00 p.m. to 3.00 a.m., Thursday to Sunday

Permissions to access the ZTL

Is there a way to access the Limited Traffic Zone of Florence? The answer is yes ! In fact, garages can ask for a regular permission of access for their clients by entering the vehicle's license plate number inside the white list.
