Everything you need to know about the ZTL in Naples

Homer, in the Odyssey, said that the city of Naples was founded by Parthenopean, the beautiful siren. Rich in history since its birth, in Naples wealth and poverty, beauty and inelegance, history and modernity coexist. The capital of Southern Italy is known all over the world, for its pizza, coffee and the enjoyable atmosphere that characterizes its streets.
Its streets are the protagonists of the next lines; in fact, the City of Naples has imposed traffic restrictions in the busiest and most historical areas of the city and has delimited completely pedestrian areas,let's find out which ones.
Tarsia – Pignasecca – Dante
This area includes: corso Vittorio Emanuele, via Montemiletto, Salita Tarsia, via Cotugno, piazza Gesù e Maria, via F. S. Correra, via Brombeis, via Avvocata, via Pessina, piazza Dante, via Toledo, via dei Pellegrini, via Giovanni Ninni, piazza Montesanto and the street of the same name. It is controlled through five electronic accesses located in: Piazza Gesù e Maria, in the urban area via Domenico Soriano, via Toledo, Piazza Dante and Via Brombeis.
Brombeis Street is the heart of this restricted traffic zone, as motorcycles or mopeds are not allowed on this street and only residents and domiciles can access it.
The ZTL Tarsia-Pignasecca-Dante is active every day from 09:00am to 06:00pm. Mopeds and motorcycles can access without authorization. Obviously exemptions and special authorizations are provided for public vehicles, doctors, armed forces and disabled people, after communicating the license plate number to the municipal office located in Piazza Dante, 93.
Through the purchase of the appropriate ticket this area can also be accessed by:
- residents' vehicles
- domiciled vehicles
- freight vehicles
- hotel guests' vehicles
- vehicles of garage customers
Ztl Napoli Centro Antico
The Ztl of Centro Antico, delimited by the areas Decumano Superiore, San Biagio dei Librai, Forcella-Tribunali and SS. Apostoli-Donna Regina, where only mopeds are allowed to enter, includes: the Ztl Mezzocannone, where motorcycles and mopeds can freely access, which extends along Via Mezzocannone in Vico Santi Filippo e Giacomo and the Ztl Piazza del Gesù, where neither motorcycles nor mopeds can access, which starts from Trinity and ends in Vico III Cisterna.
This huge area is controlled by four electronic access points located in:
- Via del Sole
- via Miroballo
- via Duomo
- Via Santa Sofia
The ZTL of the Centro Antico is in function every day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Ztl Mezzocannone is active from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, instead from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. of the following days on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and pre-weekly holidays. The Ztl in Piazza del Gesù is active every day of the year 24 hours a day.
In this area the same categories of vehicles/persons that have access to the Ztl Tarsia - Pignasecca - Dante are allowed to circulate upon authorization.
Belledonne–Martiri–Poerio
The ZTL of Naples Belledonne - Martiri - Poerio is delimited by the following streets: vico Belledonne, piazza Rodinò, via Alabardieri, via Bisignano, via Calabritto, via Cavallerizza, piazza dei Martiri, via Carlo Poerio, vico II Alabardieri, vico Satriano, vicoletto Belledonne, via G. Ferrigni and vico dei Sospiri. The electronic access points are located in vico Belledonne and via della Cavallerizza. This area is active every day from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.
Also here the same vehicles/persons that can circulate in the Ztl Tarsia - Pignasecca - Dante are allowed to enter upon authorization.
Morelli– Filangieri-Mille
This restricted traffic zone is activated every year from 8th December to 6th January on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and pre-holidays from 10:00am to 2:00pm and from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The streets concerned are Via Morelli, vico Santa Maria Cappella Vecchia, and Piazza dei Martiri.
In this area the same categories of vehicles/persons that have access to the Ztl Tarsia - Pignasecca - Dante are allowed to circulate upon authorization.
La Ztl di Chiaia
Chiaia is a very touristic area where you can find the best restaurants and cocktail bars. It is open every Saturday from 10:00am to 01:30pm and from 04:00pm to 10:00 p.m. It covers via dei Mille, via Filangieri, via S. Caterina a Chiaia, piazza dei Martiri, via Morelli from the intersection of piazza dei Martiri to via Vannella Gaetani, via S. Maria a Cappella Vecchia and the Caprioli ramp.
La Ztl Marechiaro
Traffic in this area is limited only from 1st May to 31st May on holidays and pre-holidays and for 24 hours in via Marechiaro; from 1st June to 30th June on holidays and pre-holidays for 24 hours in via Marechiaro, and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the section between via Coroglio and Via Alfano, instead from 1st July to 30th August every day from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in via Coroglio and Via Alfano, and always for 24 hours in via Marechiaro. Finally from 31 August to 30 September on public holidays and pre-holidays for 24 hours in via Marechiaro.
The same categories of vehicles/persons that have access to the Ztl Tarsia - Pignasecca - Dante can have access to it upon authorization.
