The Sitges Carnival

Since 1976, the Sitges Carnival continues to make people talk about it at the national, European or even at a world level. The 2023 Sitges Carnival will take place over 7 days starting from Thursday and will therefore end on Wednesday, the 22nd of February with the burial of His Majesty Carnestoltes and the closing dinner.

As said before, Barcelona is 40 minutes away by car from Sitges. The two cities are connected by many public transport, so it might be a good option for you to park in a parking in Barcelona and use the transport to get to the Carnival. By train: Sitges station is easily accessible from Barcelona. Indeed, the city has 3 stations that have trains to Sitges: Estacio de França, Passeig de Gràcia, Estació Sants. Depending on the station you choose, the journey time will be different but will take you a maximum of 46 minutes (30 minutes minimum) and with a price of less than 10€ round trip. By Bus: Another option is to take the bus from central Barcelona to Sitges station. Buses run from Plaça Espanya or Ronda Universitat during the day and announce a price of €4.50 for a ticket with a journey time of almost 1 hour. Find your parking space near Plaça Espanya or near Ronda Universitat (Placa Catalunya) and head to the Sitges Carnival without worrying about your car.

By Taxi: The last option is the most convenient but also the most expensive, is to take a taxi to Sitges. This will relieve all the stress of finding a parking space and get you as close as possible to your destination. It takes about 40 minutes and at least 70€ to go there (to be sure of your route, book your taxi in advance).

What to do at the Sitges Carnival February from the 16th to the 22nd 2023?

The Sitges Carnival will take place on Thursday 16 (Shrove Thursday) at 7pm and will end on Wednesday 22 in the evening. It takes place over 7 days, with every day, new things to do but also to see. We’re giving you a little recap of the things not to be missed at the Sitges Carnival in February 2023.

Parades

The parades are part of this event, they will be set up on Sunday, the 19th, and Tuesday, the 21st and will parade in the city from Avenida Sofia to Cap de la Vila. Keep in mind that two kinds of parades are in place : those with children and those with adults. The children’s sessions will take place at 12:00 on Sunday (the 19th) and Tuesday (the 21st). Regarding the two most anticipated adult parades of Carnival are, on one side, the debauchery parade which is one of the largest in the world and will take place on Sunday at 7:30pm, and on the other hand the extermination parade which is the most anticipated and emblematic of the Sitges Carnival on Tuesday at 9 pm.

Bed Run

This is one of the most funny activities of the Carnival and it brings together young and old in the same basket to attend a bed race. The principle is simple, there are several teams composed of 5 people and which has a bed with wheels, one person of the group will have to get on the same bed and the others will have to push it so that the bed rolls as fast as possible. At the heart of this playful competition, a prize including some prizes offered by the organizers. This session will take place near Victor Balaguer.

Ash Wednesday

The opening of the Carnival is a great tradition, but the closing is even more so. Indeed, the last day of this event is Wednesday, the 22nd, which is in Spain, Ash Day. People gather for the death of the Carnival King. It is with Cuaresma (Madame Carême) that the Sitges Carnival will end as it will end the excess of this week and bring an atmosphere of wisdom.
