Theatre space opened in 1972 and always known as the Sala Villarroel. Since its establishment, more than 250 performances have been released, most in Catalan and of Catalan authors, 21 foreign production performances and more than 55 song recitals.
La Villarroel was founded in 1972 to create a theatre close to the working class. It has now become a space for contemporary theatre, auteur theatre and, above all, support for Catalan writing.
It is supported by the Generalitat and the City Council of Barcelona. It is located in the Esquerra de l'Eixamplearea.
