Park in Elevador de Santa Justa

The Elevador de Santa Justa was inaugurated in 1902 as the Elevador do Carmo, in Baixa do Chiado. It was built to connect Baixa to Largo do Carmo. When it started working it was a reason for great joy for the people of Lisbon because there was no quick way to go from the lower to the upper part of the capital. Nowadays, besides being a means of transport, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Lisbon. The lift is 45 metres high and its architecture is reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower as its author was an admirer of the French artist. Near the lift are Rossio Square, the Baixa (downtown) area, São Jorge Castle, Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) and Lisbon Cathedral. At the top of Santa Justa you will have an incredible view of Baixa.
