Parking in Lyon.

Lyon is a city in the south-east of France, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of which it is the capital, in the centre of the Rhône department. Former capital of Gaul during the Roman Empire, Lyon is now the third largest city in France in terms of population after Paris and Marseille. It is a geographical crossroads between the north and south of France and Europe, located between the Massif Central and the Alps. In addition, the city has four districts that are internationally recognised for their architectural beauty and are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Therefore, with the city's charm attracting many tourists in addition to the large numbers of residents and the transient population within the municipality due to the activity zone it represents, on-street parking in Lyon can be very difficult.

Lyon uses a differentiation between two zones for parking charges in the heart of the city. A zone called Presto, which is short term and located in Lyon's hypercentre. Parking is allowed for up to one hour at a rate of 2€ per hour. However, parking is free from 7pm to 9am on Sundays and public holidays. The second zone, called Tempo, is cheaper at a rate of 4€ for three hours, which is the maximum duration. The same free rate applies on Sundays and public holidays and throughout August.
