The Cathedral of San Isidro is one of the most famous Catholic churches in the city centre of Madrid, located exactly on Calle Toledo. Dedicated to the patron saint San Isidro and his bride Santa Maria de La Cabeza, the basilica was the city's main church until 1993, when the Almudena Cathedral was consecrated. It was built in the 17th century, in a predominantly Baroque style, to a design by Pedro Sanchez and is currently one of the buildings that most reflect and carry the name of Madrilenian architecture of this century.
