Located outside the city walls, Lavapiés is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Madrid, whose narrow and irregular streets retain their medieval origin. Meeting point of different cultures, is becoming the new "cool" neighborhood.
Lavapiés is a neighbourhood located in the Embajadores district, in the Centro of the city. It is one of the most multicultural districts in Madrid. The traditional air and the combination of different customs make Lavapiés one of the most bohemian areas of the city. Art galleries and small exhibitions abound. Its distribution on the map is reminiscent of the medieval guilds, but divided into nationalities, which gathered together with the young alternative interested in the culture of the center and who saw in Lavapiés a place where it is possible to live. The area is known as the manolería and its neighbors as manolos and manolas.
