Meaux is a municipality in the Ile-de-France region, the most populated of the region's largest department, the Seine-et-Marne. As the second capital of the department, Meaux is very well connected to the cities of its department and its region, starting with Paris, from which it is located about 50 kilometers away. Very close to Paris Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport and Disneyland Paris, Meaux is in the heart of a major French business center and is therefore an interesting parking option for visiting the city or the region.
The municipality of Meaux has set up a system of three different parking zones that can be identified by the color assigned to them. You will find a blue, green, and red zone. The blue zone is a temporary parking zone that is completely free. The green zone is the cheapest paying zone, located on the outskirts of the business districts, with a rate of 2€ for 2 hours and is limited to 8h30 of parking. The red zone is located in the city center and has a higher rate of 2.50€ for 2 hours. It is limited to a maximum parking time of 2.5 hours. The rates for the two paid zones apply only from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 12pm and from 2pm to 7pm.
In addition to the on-street parking that the city offers, Meaux has several underground parking options near the main places of interest. For example, you can find two parking garages near the IUT of Meaux and its Luxembourg theater. You can also find four parking options close to Meaux's city hall, its hospital, and its high schools. Finally, to visit the city, two other options are available near the hyper center where you can admire the magnificent Cathedral of Meaux or near the banks of the Marne.
The city has a rich history of which it is proud, and which can be felt in the alleys of Meaux. It was the scene of many historical battles which led it to undergo several sieges and even be burned for 15 days. Each year, in summer, the town of Meaux organizes a show in which the city and its inhabitants tell its history to many spectators in the heart of the episcopal palace of Meaux. Today, it is the largest city in the department, which used to be called the "granary of France" because of the number of fields it contains. More than 55.000 inhabitants live in this peaceful and beautiful commune of the Ile-de-France.
Thanks to its very rich history, the town of Meaux has collected over time many places of interest to visit during a visit to the city. Therefore, the historical center of Meaux is accessible by passing through the ancient Gallo-Roman ramparts which are still present, and which border the very beautiful Bossuet Garden located in the courtyard of the episcopal palace. In the same district you will find the old chapter of Meaux and while strolling in the streets you will come across the impressive Cathedral Saint-Etienne, symbol of the city. More to the north of the city, you will be able to visit its beautiful museum of the Great War in front of which is a huge statue. On the other hand, further south, you will have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful walks in the centre of the protected park of Pâtis which borders the Marne and offers an incredible environment.
