The Vienna Airport, officially known as Vienna International Airport-Schwechat, is the main gateway to the capital of Austria and one of the most important airports in Central Europe..

Vienna Airport, also known as Vienna-Schwechat Airport due to its proximity to the municipality of Schwechat, is located 18 km southeast of Vienna. It is Austria's busiest airport, handling 23 million passengers annually. Vienna International Airport has four terminals: T1, T1A, T2, and T3. Airlines such as Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, Iberia, Vueling, and Wizz Air operate here. Finding parking at Vienna airport can be quite a challenge.

Connecting the picturesque city of Vienna, home to 1.8 million people, with countless national and international destinations, this airport has earned its reputation as a hub of bustling activity and vitality. But it's not just its prime location that makes it so special; its strategic position near the borders of Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic makes it a key communications hub for passenger and freight traffic in Europe.

HOW TO GET TO VIENNA AIRPORT

You can reach Vienna Airport in several ways. The most comfortable is by car, but you can also take public transport, which is quick and efficient. Below are the various options available to get to the airport on time and avoid missing your flight.

HOW TO GET TO VIENNA AIRPORT BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT

To reach Vienna Airport by public transport, you can take the train or bus. The bus is slightly more expensive than the train and takes a bit longer, but it’s a very convenient option if you are located in certain parts of Vienna. Vienna Airport has its own train and bus station, so either option is valid; just choose the one that best suits your situation.

Train

Vienna Airport has its own train station called Flughafen Wien. Regional and long-distance trains connect the airport with the country’s capital. ÖBB’s Railjet high-speed trains operate hourly and take you from the airport to Wien Hauptbahnhof and Wien Meidling stations and vice versa. The travel time between the airport terminals and central Vienna is only 15 minutes.

ÖBB also offers direct connections between Vienna Airport and Austrian cities such as Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and St. Pölten via Intercity Express trains.

Another fast option to reach the airport is the City Airport Train (CAT). This exclusive service connects Wien Mitte and Flughafen Wien stations in just 16 minutes.

Note that some airlines, including Austrian Airlines, offer tickets allowing free travel between the capital and the airport.

Bus

If you are looking for a more economical option than the City Airport Train, we recommend the Vienna Airport Lines or Postbus bus services. All of these arrive at Flughafen Wien Busterminal, the airport bus station located opposite Terminal 3.

There are three routes:

  • Line VAL 1: Departs from Westbahnhof and passes through Hauptbahnhof.
  • Line VAL 2: Departs from Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz (the center of Vienna).
  • Line VAL 3: Departs from Donaustadt and passes through Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Messe Wien, and the Prater.

How to Get to Vienna Airport by Car?

From Vienna city center, you can reach Vienna International Airport by car in about 25 minutes, depending on traffic. The airport is approximately 17 kilometers from the center and is easily accessible via the A23 towards Schwechat Airport/Bratislava/Slovakia. When you see exit 11-Flughafen, take it and follow the signs to the terminal corresponding to your flight.

Remember to pay attention to traffic signs and follow navigation device instructions. It is advisable to allow extra time, especially during peak hours.

Parking at Vienna Airport

The airport offers a wide variety of parking options. We recommend booking your space in advance, especially during peak season, as availability may be limited. Securing a parking spot will allow you to enjoy your trip worry-free. Below are the different parking options available.

Parking A

This parking lot is located a 5-minute walk from the terminals. To get to the terminals, there is an underground passage, although you can also walk through Parking 4.

Parking C

Parking C is a 7 to 10-minute walk from the terminals. This parking is not covered. However, the route to the terminals is underground, protecting you from bad weather.

Parking 3 and 4

Parking 3 and 4 offer direct access to the terminals, making them the fastest option. However, depending on your departing terminal, you should choose one or the other. If your flight departs from Terminal 1 or 1A, choose Parking 3. If your flight departs from Terminal 3, choose Parking 4.

Parking k3

Parking k3 is for passenger pick-up only. It is located right in the arrivals area, making it an ideal option for picking up passengers. It is convenient and close, allowing for a quick and comfortable pick-up.

It has 4 terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 1A, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3. • Terminal T1: This terminal hosts charter and low-cost airline flights.
  • Terminal T1A: Opened in 2005, it accommodates low-cost airline flights and charter flights.
