Granada, famous touristic city of Andalucía, is the capital of the ancient nazarí kingdom. Its main monument is the Alhambra, the Generalife gardens and the Abaicín, all declared World Heritage Site. The airport is located 12 km away from the city.

Parking in Granada

Thanks to its remarkable attractions, Granada welcomes more than 3 million tourists every year. From this data it is easy to understand that parking in this city is not the easiest thing to do. However, here are some tips that you can use to park for free or at a low cost.

Parking in the center of Granada

Granada is one of the most visited cities located in the south of Spain in the region of Andalusia. This magical city keeps, in each of its corners, historical monuments that express a mixture of cultures and their relationship with this destination. So impressive that they have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO and are still preserved for your appreciation. This city is definitely a must stop that will not disappoint. So if you are around the city by car and want to get to know it, we suggest parking in the center and continuing your tour on foot.

Parking in a public parking lot in the Realejo neighborhood.

To enjoy the best of Granada and not miss anything, we recommend parking in the neighborhood of Realejo. From here you can start your walking tour without any problems, and get to know: The Cathedral, the first Renaissance church in Spain, combined with the Muslim history of the city, represented by the Alhambra and the Albaicin neighborhood with the Catholic influence; Carrera del Darro, the most popular and picturesque street of the city where you can start your tour appreciating the Plaza Nueva, the Paseo de los Tristes and with beautiful views towards the Alhambra and the Albaicin; **The Alhambra, one of the most visited monuments in Spain for its impressive palaces and gardens representing Muslim art and the Islamic presence in Spain; El Mirador de San Nicolas, located in the center of the Albaicin and from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Alhambra. This is one of the most essential viewpoints in Granada.

Finding a parking space usually in the center of Granada is complicated, as most of the tourist area connects easily with each other, which causes a lot of people to accumulate and therefore, the parking spaces are constantly occupied. For this reason, we recommend reserving a parking space in Realejo in advance. To search for parking spaces, compare rates and book online quickly and easily, do it through Parkimeter.

On-street parking in Granada city center

If you have decided better to look for street parking spontaneously because you prefer to flow with the plans, you should know first that the parking zones in Granada are divided into three: blue zone, green zone and red zone. Anyone can make use of them, but you must take into account that each one offers you a different parking time: In the blue zone, you can park for up to 2 hours, the green zone, 5 hours and the red zone, maximum 1 hour.

If you consider that you need more time, you can opt again for a public parking lot, because if you exceed the time limit for parking on the street, it can cost you a fine or even worse, your car will be removed.

Free parking in Granada

For free parking in Granada, the first area we recommend is around the Ciencias Park and the Neptuno Shopping Centre, which are just a 20 minute walk from the centre. If you are willing to use public transport, the Campus de la Salud and nearby locations such as Armilla, La Zubia or Ogijares are ideal for free parking.

ZTL

As is often the case in all cities with historic centres, Granada has different rules for traffic in these areas. In fact, most of the city centre is restricted to private vehicles, so it is advisable to check in advance on arrival whether the hotel and car park you wish to drive to is inside or outside the ZTL.

What to visit in Granada

The first site you should visit is the city's cathedral, which is one of the greatest works of the Spanish Renaissance. Parking nearby may seem like an impossible task, but thanks to Parkimeter you can reserve a space at the Puerta Real car park, which is just a 10-minute walk from the site.

You can't say you've really visited Granada without seeing the Royal Chapel. It's located right next to the cathedral but is a separate visit. The Royal Chapel was built during the 15th century to serve as a burial place for Spanish monarchs.

Undoubtedly the Alhambra is the most visited monument in Granada, but not only in Granada but also in Spain. In fact, this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also known as the 'Red Palace'. Built in the 13th century by Moorish rulers to serve as their residence, it covers over 140,000 square metres and comprises three must-see parts:

Obviously, given the size of the site, we recommend that you allow at least 3 hours to visit it completely.

Another must-see is the views of Granada, we recommend the one located in the Albacin district, the mirador de San Nicolas, which offers a breathtaking view of the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada. But another interesting view is also offered by the mirador de San Cristobal.

Granada is a wonderful city that you absolutely must visit. If you are planning to make your trip by car, you will now know where to go for free parking, but be prepared to climb steep slopes and narrow streets. If you want to avoid having to do all of this, turn to Parkimeter and choose a secure car park in the centre of Granada.
